Crib time...

Six months is here and time for Aiden to start learning how to sleep in his own crib.

We are taking it slowly, but hopefully by this weekend we can get him to sleep through the night. Mommy and Daddy have a few technical feats to overcome as well before we feel ready to let him make his solo flight through the night.

We have the video monitor and for extra comfort we got this neat little monitor that is supposed to monitor his movement and even breathing...alarms go off if there is no sign of either of these - well that's how it is supposed to work. We tested it last night without thoroughly testing the sensitivity of the unit...in other words - daddy hooked it up and around 8:30ish we put him in the crib and it wasn't fully functional (more about that later).

So we put him in his crib around 8ish to get him used to going down for the night in his own crib. He cried for about 15 minutes...we checked on him a few times and patted him and let him know we were still around (but not going to rush in there every time he cries) - this was really hard! But after a while he actually went to sleep. We kept spying on him using the video monitor and it was precious...he had both arms straight out to his side (mommy thought it looked like that guy from one of Leonardo Da Vinci's drawings). This was probably the first time he hadn't been constrained by his bassinet or Boppy while sleeping and he was taking full advantage of all of that sleeping room!

Back to the monitor story....remember how I said that we hadn't fully tested it? About 10:30 or so the alarm went off - I jumped up and ran into the room to see what was wrong (I figured that it probably wasn't anything too bad because I installed the sensor pad under one part of the mattress and Mommy put Aiden on the opposite end - so I knew that we might be getting some false signals). Anyway, I turned off the unit and reset it and checked on Aiden...he hadn't budged. I was starting to worry, but could tell by getting closer to him that he was in a deeeeeep sleep. The alarm didn't even wake him up. As far as I can tell the placement of the sensor pad as well as the sensitivity of the device needs to be adjusted. He was in such a still and deep sleep that he wasn't physically moving around anymore like he had been and it wasn't picking up his breathing motion because of the sensor adjustment/placement.

So, all was okay and we retired that monitor for the night.
Aiden awoke with his internal "hunger alarm" right on schedule around midnight...that we really didn't need a monitor for us to hear! LOL

We "tune" the monitor tonite and try again...can't wait until he gets full enough to sleep through the night so mommy and daddy can also finally get some rest. ;)
